This year has been a whirlwind of emotions and memories. We thought we would take a different approach to let you guys remember how our year has been and how thankful we are for the events that took place in 2008. A lot of people send out a recap of their year in their Christmas cards. Since we are all New Kids on the Block fans and it has affected and altered our lives in many ways this year we decided to do a recap of our own. We call it “Year in Review from the Perspective of a NKOTB Fan”.
January began like any other. The quiet and calm after the holiday rush. However in 2008 the quiet didn't last long. On January 21, NKOTB.com went live with a registration form to get updates. On January 26, a rumble began and rumors began to surface. People magazine published news that the New Kids on the Block were reuniting. It was hard to believe at first. It had been 14 years in the making and most of us believed we would never see the day. On January 28, a video montage hinting of a reunion became active on NKOTB.com.
In
February the buzz grew louder. The "closet" fans begin to come out of the woodwork. The official NKOTB website posted a video with clips of they hype that the media was producing about a possible reunion. Still no official word though. Even with all of the hype and commotion the boys remained mum about a possible reunion.
March came and went with little news. The anticipation was out of control and fans everywhere patiently awaited the official announcement. NKOTB.com went through some changes and fans were given a phone number to call and leave messages for the guys. On March 31, news leaked from People magazine that NKOTB would be on The Today Show on April 4 to make the official announcement.
On
April 1, the Boston Globe and Herald report that there was definitely a tour in the works. Finally on April 4 the guys INDEED made an appearance on The Today Show where the official announcement was made. NKOTB IS BACK!!! Come to find out the fans excitement brought forth the reunion announcement earlier than first envisioned.
May brought the boys back to NYC for another appearance on the Today Show. This is where our escapade began. The TX 4 made a quick decision to head to NYC for the Today Show appearance. We had no idea the magnitude of the tour and we were afraid that they guys would only be in a few cities on the east and west coast. We had to see them one way or another. So we flew to NYC, camped out on the streets, met up with other fans we had met on the message board (Kat and Denise), met many more fans while we were there (Mississippi, et al) and had the time of our lives. We were within the first 100 people in line and weathered through the sun, the cold, and the torrential downpours. The concert was amazing and the experience priceless. While in NYC the tour was announced and we were excited to see they would be in Texas for 3 shows.
In
June tickets went on sale. A show was added in New Orleans and it was official -- the TX 4 was going to see 4 shows in 4 days. We had officially gone crazy!
In
July we had the first of many NKOTB fans meet ups in Houston. Within these meet ups, we have been able to meet a group of friends that understand one another and don't think our addiction is absurd. We truly will be friends for a long time.
August brought another NKOTB fan meet up, each time getting bigger and better. We met more friends and the anticipation for Octobers concerts grew more and more.
September for us in Houston brought Hurricane Ike. Although the city suffered a lot of damage our spirits could not be broken. Less than two weeks after the storm we had another NKOTB fan meet up. We got “The Block” played at a club downtown and the DJ liked the music so much we gave him a copy of the CD.
October finally arrived and we were all giddy. Jenn and I won sound check passes plus we had VIP. We knew we were going to meet all 5 guys in 2008. The show was phenomenal; the FACETIME was real; the trip with the girls was a trip of a lifetime. 4 shows in 4 different cities in 4 days. Yes....we know it was crazy to do but it was well worth it. The crash after the high was depressing but knowing that summer 2009 was in fact true gave us hope and something to look forward.
November brought more news of the summer 2009 tour and keeping up with the blogs and vlogs on the website kept our heads up. The TX 4 became the Houston 5 with the creation of the Texas NKOTB FBI and the blog/vlog website.
December is here. No dates are set yet but we are eagerly waiting for the news. Not only are the Houston 5 awaiting the announcement, the city of Houston, the friendly state of Texas, and the great country of the U.S.A. awaits the Summer 2009 tour dates.
With all of this said we are so happy to have experienced so many things this year. Not only has this reunion brought back good nostalgic memories but it has allowed us to create many more new memories as well. We are so thankful for the friendships that have been created because of the reunion. This year has been a dream come true and we know that 2009 will only hold more memories, more friendships, more adventures, and hopefully more dreams come true.
We wish everyone a Merry (and Funky, Funky) Christmas and a Happy New Year!
See ya in 2009!!!!!
~Houston 5 (Kristi, Jenn, Whitney, Amanda and Sarah)
